New Haven Coach Chris Celano Reaches 400 Career Wins. Congratulations to University of New Haven coach and Italian American Chris Celano on reaching 400 career wins. The Long Island native played professionally in Italy where he was a member of the 1999 Italian League Champion Rimini Pirates.

Play Baseball in Italy This Summer

Caliendo Sports International Baseball is organizing a youth baseball development trip to Italy, sponsored by the Italian American Baseball Foundation. Peter Caliendo, Mike Taverna, and Bill Sandillo will provide instruction during the July 25–August 4, 2022 program for ages 14–16, which includes tours and games in Italian cities.

IABF Supports Phil Cuzzi’s Robert Luongo ALS Fund

Phil Cuzzi may be a Major League Baseball Umpire but he’s also a deeply passionate man who has devoted time and energy to building the Robert Luongo ALS Fund. DiMaggio, Berra, Campanella, Piazza Make ESPN Top 100

ESPN released its list of the Top 100 MLB Players of All-Time last week. Four Italian-Americans made the cut. Rightfully so, Joe DiMaggio (16), Yogi Berra (39), Mike Piazza (81) and Roy Campanella (83) are listed. All four legends are inductees of the Baseball Hall of Fame, of course.

Anthony Iapoce Named Senior Hitting Coordinator of Boston Red Sox

Anthony Iapoce has joined the Boston Red Sox as senior hitting coordinator in player development. The New York native previously coached the Rangers and Cubs, served as a special assistant to Chicago’s general manager, and worked in the Brewers’ and Marlins’ organizations after being drafted in 1994.

Mike Pagliarulo Named Special Assistant to Nationals GM Mike Rizzo

IABF Ambassador and MLB veteran Mike Pagliarulo has been hired as a special assistant to Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo. The organization said its heritage and cultural collaboration helped connect Pagliarulo and Rizzo, and wished Pagliarulo success in his new role.

Apply Today: IABF Launches 2022 Scholarship Application

The 2022 Italian American Baseball Foundation Scholarship application is open to graduating high school seniors and current college baseball or softball players from the United States or Italy. Applicants must meet membership, heritage, GPA, roster and financial-need requirements, submit supporting documents and complete an interview.

IABF Sponsors Juano Romero Winter Baseball Camp in Florida

The Italian American Baseball Foundation sponsored the winter Juan Romero Baseball Camp as a way to begin the New Year. The foundation said its Florida connections continue to grow and expressed pride in supporting youth baseball development through the camp.

Tom Verducci Inducted to NSMA Hall of Fame

Tom Verducci received another major honor after the IABF Media Award: induction into the National Sports Media Association Hall of Fame. The achievement was celebrated with congratulations and appreciation for his work, which was described as a source of pride.
