Frank Catalanotto, Hofstra Make History

In his first season managing Hofstra, IABF Ambassador Frank Catalanotto led the Pride to its first Colonial Athletic Association baseball championship. Hofstra finished the tournament 4-0, won nine straight games and earned the conference’s automatic NCAA Division I bid.

2022 IABF Bay Area College Games

The Italian American Baseball Foundation hosted its first Bay Area Collegiate Games in April, bringing players from Italy to compete against West Coast colleges for scholarship opportunities and cultural connection. The week included games, university visits, an Oakland Athletics event and honors for players, coaches and organizers.

IABF Scholarship Winner Shannon Russo Shining at Raritan Valley Community College

Shannon Russo was one of IABF’s inaugural scholarship winners in 2021. Playing softball at Raritan Valley Community College, she has six hits in eight games and is hitting .273. She also has 3 RBI and has scored 2 runs in the early part of the season. Good luck to Shannon the rest of the year!

IABF Scholarship Winner Named CUNYAC Pitcher of the Week

Francesco Bonvini, a 2021 IABF Scholarship winner and pitcher/infielder at Kingsborough Community College, was named CUNYAC Pitcher of the Week. From Parma, Italy, he pitched three innings against Division II Morris, striking out six and allowing one run.

IABF All-Stars from Italy to Compete Against Bay Area Colleges

The first IABF San Francisco Bay Area Collegiate Games will bring Italian baseball players to the United States from April 20 through April 27, 2022, to grow the game and bridge cultures. The IABF All-Stars will compete against five Bay Area universities, with Parma native Gibo Gerali as manager.

New Haven Coach Chris Celano Reaches 400 Career Wins. Congratulations to University of New Haven coach and Italian American Chris Celano on reaching 400 career wins. The Long Island native played professionally in Italy where he was a member of the 1999 Italian League Champion Rimini Pirates.

The 2022 Italian American Baseball Foundation Scholarship application is open to graduating high school seniors and current college baseball or softball players from the United States or Italy. Applicants must meet membership, heritage, GPA, roster and financial-need requirements, submit supporting documents and complete an interview.

Italian American Baseball Foundation Awards First Scholarships

The Italian American Baseball Foundation awarded its first college scholarships in fall 2021 to Francesco Bonvini, Franco Logozzo and Shannon Russo. The student-athletes, who play baseball or softball in New York and New Jersey, met criteria including academic performance, Italian heritage, roster status and financial need.

IABF Ambassador Frank Catalanotto Named Hofstra Baseball Head Coach

Frank Catalanotto was named Hofstra University’s 15th head baseball coach after a 14-year Major League Baseball career and two seasons leading New York Tech. He guided the Bears to their first Division II College World Series appearance, a school-record 37 wins, and a national ranking.
